CBS’ Accidentally on Purpose Cancelled

Although this show performed relatively well in the post How I Met Your Mother timeslot, it still had not proven itself worthy of renewal.

The show moved to the post- New Adventures of Old Christine timeslot when Rules of Engagement returned.

The Jenna Elfman vehicle has averaged under a 2.0 18-49 rating and just over 7 million viewers. Rules of Engagement – which replaced AoP has held onto the key demo (18-49) much more convincingly, and even grew in viewers from its premiere to the third week.

Accidentally on Purpose Cancelled?

Although this show has performed relatively well in the post HIMYM timeslot, it still hasn’t proven itself worthy of renewal. The show is moving to the post- New Adventures of Old Christine timeslot later in the month.

The Jenna Elfman vehicle has not been able to hold onto its solid HIMYM lead in thus far, averaging under a 3.0 18-49 rating and just over 8 million viewers. Rules of Engagement – which replaced AoP has held onto the key demo (18-49) much more convincingly, and even grew in viewers from its premiere to the third week.

Chances of renewal: Slim.

The Mentalist Cancelled?

Last week they pulled the ol’ switcheroo, moving The Mentalist to 9/8c and CSI to 10/9c. This did not work out well for either show.

On the plus side though, the show has been performing relatively well this season, averaging a 3.3 18-49 rating and just over 13 million viewers, not too bad considering the weakening of CSI.

My guess: renewed.

Survivor Cancelled?

As I continue writing these, it dawns on me that CBS probably has the most stable line up of all of the broadcast nets. Most of its shows will be returning next season, which is good compared to the slew of new shows NBC will be throwing our way next season.

This show has been averaging a solid 3.5 rating (for this cycle) and just under 11 million viewers – not too bad at all. And surely the production costs are lower too? Yep.

CSI: NY Cancelled?

Ah, the second most hated of the CSI’s. I say second most because I’m pretty sure that most people who’ve tried to watch the Miami spinoff have hated David Caruso, or was that just me?

The show has performed as well as its sister show, the original CSI this season, averaging a 3.4 rating and a solid 12 million viewers. This leads me to believe that it has a solid chance of renewal.

Brothers and Sisters Cancelled?

This show had a fantastic start to the season and was benefitting heavily from having the hard hitter Desperate Housewives as its lead in. However of late, the show has been dwindling probably because of the hit that ‘Housewives’ has taken.

This show has been averaging around a 2.8 (18-49) rating this season, which is probably enough considering how much some of the other shows are struggling.

My guess: renewal.

Cougar Town Cancelled?

Although many were against this Courteney Cox vehicle, the show fared very well for the first half of the season, keeping up well with the freshman hit, Modern Family. Since Idol has returned however, the show has seen a hit among the all in important key ad demographic.

The show has averaged a 2.9 18-49 rating thus far, and while that isn’t on par with Modern Family, it is still very good considering the American Idol factor.

Already renewed.

Modern Family Cancelled?

Quick answer? No. This freshman fan-favourite is quickly becoming one of the very few shows that can hold their own against FOX juggernaut, American Idol.

The show has been averaging a solid 3.6 (18-49) rating and just over 9 million viewers. Compare that to some of the other new shows which haven’t had to compete with Idol and you’ll see why this is a keeper.

Already renewed.

Private Practice Cancelled?

Much like NCIS: LA, Practice needs its sister show as a lead in to survive. It just wouldn’t work in other timeslots, which was proven in its freshman year.

The ratings are stable, just hovering around an average of 3.0 and just over 9 million viewers – good but not great.

My guess: renewed.
